Yosemite Menu Bar by rabra Yosemite Menu Bar by rabra
Yosemite Menu Bar for Rainmeter simulates MacOSX menu bar.

It has menus with preset commands and menus that show applications shortcuts that you can easily customize.

Start Menu - Rainmeter version of start menu.

Applications - Menu with mostly used applications. You can easily customize this menu by opening Application Folder and adding or removing shortcuts.

Documents - Menu shows your Documents folder. You can easily switch to Pictures, Music, Videos and you can scroll through your files for quick access. Locations for these folders can be changed in Settings category "Documents and Places" by choosing "Configuration File" and changing paths.

Places - Menu shows mostly accessed places like My Computer, Documents, Downloads, Contacts... It enables you to quickly access or eject removable drive.

System tray icons enables you to change volume, control music player, search files on Computer or Internet. Home page can be set in Settings by choosing "Documents and Places" and "Configuration File".

This small suite comes with Lockscreen and a few desktop widgets like Battery meter, Clock, World Clock, Media Player and Volume Control.

Menu appearance can be easily customized from Settings where you can change Theme, Colors, Transparency, Font. You can change Date and Time Format that appears in system tray and Lockscreen and you can select your media player.

Made to satisfy my own customizing needs :)
Hope you find it useful :)

Hey man, love this menu bar, its awesome! The only problem I have is that as I have dual monitors, when I use the Lockscreen function, it shows each wallpaper split in half. Is there a way I can set a Lockscreen wallpaper or not? Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm new to Rainmeter and don't want to change something I shouldn't aha

Thank you. I don't have multiple monitor setup so I cannot test it if it works or not. Try replacing variables SCREENAREAWIDTH and SCREENAREAHEIGHT in "LocksScreen.ini" with some of Monitor variables. Play with different combination of variables till you find something that works for you. Hope this helps.

Hi,
really great job on this one, but can you add password on when closing the "lockscreen"?

Hi,
thank you for your comment. I intended "Lockscreen" to be a simple Rainmeter skin that hides content of desktop displaying only wallpaper and clock. In that manner it mimics iOS lock screen look and it is easily turned off by clicking anywhere on the screen. That way you can hide content of desktop while you are doing something else or you are not sitting in front of your screen and still want to display something. Setting password and locking out users is not something skin should be doing. For security reasons, I recommend using standard Windows lock screen.

Hi, this seems really nice but the menus won't stay open when I click them. they open and close really fast.

Thank you. You can click somewhere on the desktop so that menu loses focus and try again.

Thank you :)
Yes you need to use aero theme in Win7 to enable it. Also you can turn it on or off in skin settings in section "Themes". Be aware that blurring effect only works on Win7.

Windows logo is not simple image, so it would take some work to change it. I do not plan to change it for the time being since it works fine as start button, and it is Windows not OSX :)

Great job! shame that my operating system (windows vista) can not use it.
There any way to get it?

Thank you. I don't know if it runs OK under Vista. You can try by extracting it manually to skins folder.

Sorry for that. Only Win7 and up is allowed to install skin. I cannot test it under Vista so I cannot say with guarantee that it will work. You can read more about installing skins at Rainmeter docs.

rabra ... hey bud, I have been a long time user of your Rainmeter skin, but now I really need your help!

I recently bought a new ssd, and if you're familiar with how things go ... I installed my windows os (and some programs) on the ssd ... and other media stuff like movies and pics on the hdd. So yeah, I basically did a fresh install of everything. And the problem that I'm facing now is that ... everything works fine with your skin, but ... when I open documents tab on the skin - then I see nothing (no videos or pictures folder etc). It's most likely because your skin is configured to search for that stuff in the c drive (which is now my ssd), but as I stated all me media and docs etc are in the d drive (the hdd). And similar to this issue is that when I go to the places tab and click on documents or videos to get that particular window to open - then I get an error .... probably because of the same reason as mentioned before.

So yeah, I'd immensely appreciate your help and I'm sure other people with a similar hdd and ssd set-up will also appreciate it. I want to continue to use your skin ... so yeah, thanks!!!

Edit: I know that probably to fix this issue, I need to edit the config files in notepad ... but I honestly know very little of it.

Hi. There is solution for your problem.

Open skin settings (far right icon in skin emulated system tray) and select the group "Documents and Places". There is "Configuration File" option that you need to select. It opens configuration file you need to edit. Everything is well commented so it is easy to do. You can find seperate values for location of documents, music, pictures. What you need to do is to paste path of location of your music, pictures... And that is it. Save and restart Rainmeter. It should be working.

Media player part of the skin can control simple functions of supported media players. Please use one of the supported media players to play music. I do not plan to change Windows icon for the time being.

Thank you. You can extract skin from package using 7zip and place it in Skins folder. I don't have Vista, and I don' know if it works. But I guess it will work.

What do you mean no support on W7?

Skin has been created on Win7 and it seems to be running OK. If you have any problems with it, I invite you to send me a note and I'll try to help you.

I don't want you to feel like I am exaggerating but, frankly, this is by far the most complete and detailed RM theme I've seen. It might not be the most varied (like complete suites), as it were but this is the type of stuff that I enjoy - top-notch in one particular field. Would double fave it if I could. Cheers!

One question: Can i have a simple clock widget (i mean without the background shadow and the words under)? And How?

Thank you so much for that.
There are not many widgets in this little suite, so I tried to make them look very similar. Clock widget is similar to world clock with background, it can be black or white. I do not plan to change them for now.

I'm enjoying the menu bar. The only problem I have is that the "Lock Screen" does not show any wallpaper, just solid colors. I'm running windows 8.1. Just wondering if there is a fix. Thanks.

Thank you very much. It seems to have some problem with not beeing able to read wallpaper file in Win8 especially when slideshow is enabled. You may see more about this down in the comments. For now, try setting one image as wallpaper and see what's happening. Hope this helps.

*GLITCHES*
  • Sometimes the windows button, applications,  and the documents menus refuse to open. There is no highlight or anything. The problem could be my pc though - it's plagued. xD
  • When I click the menus, there are times when it fades out instantaneously before I can even make use of it.
  • The menu headings when selected, blinks (the highlight goes on and off)
  • The music player (not the widget) sometimes refuses to come up. Also there are times when the music is paused while the indicator says it is playing.
*SUGGESTIONS*
I know you've probably tried most of these before. But just in case you didnt....
  • I use an application called desktop corral that prevents maximize windows from overlapping a selected space. I don't know how possible it is for that to be integrated into the bar's settings? see here:  i1380.photobucket.com/albums/a…
  • Somehow there can be a little arrow that shows hidden icons in the system tray (same one like on the taskbar) see here: i1380.photobucket.com/albums/a…
  • A close emulation to spotlight on the mac - the one before the yosemite update would be sufficient. A yosemite-like one would be grand.
  • Volume settings on right click.
  • Password on Lockscreen
  • Manage applications just like the menubar (This is probably impossible)

Hi, thank you for your feedback and suggestions.

GLITCHES - not so much.
  • You must have set position of Menu Bar to be topmost, to keep it on the screen all the time, what might lead to menu blinking and not opening. Position is set to normal by default.
  • Setting Menu Bar to be topmost might cause music player (not the widget) to blink or close after opening. As I can see from the screenshots you posted, music is not playing. Pressing play button begins playback and changes button image to pause so you can press it to pause playback. Please be sure you have selected your media player in Settings.

SUGGESTIONS
  • DesktopCoral is application that I have already recommended down in the comments. Great idea to reserve some space at the top of the screen and keep Menu Bar always visible. I like what it looks like in screenshots you posted. As for including it in the package, it is not possible since it is separate application. I recommend supporting original authors of DesktopCoral.
  • System Tray icons cannot be displayed in Rainmeter. Maybe there is a shortcut that could pop-up hidden System Tray icons but I don't know. I could recommend Nexus Dock to display System Tray icons in the Dock.
  • For something similar to Spotlight search I could recommend Launchy.
  • Changing volume should work by clicking on speaker icons and by dragging volume slider.
  • Setting password and locking out users is not something skin should be doing. "Lockscreen" is here to quickly hide content of desktop and present beautiful wallpaper with clock on it :)
You can always press Windows logo key + L.
  • Sometimes it is best to be realistic and accept that Rainmeter is perfect utility with vast diversity of designers, here on DA, whose skins decorate our desktops and improve usability to some degree, but it can do only so much. For more information you can read topic on Replacing your Windows taskbar & system tray w/Rainmeter.

I recommend you delete Yosemite Menu Bar files from skin folder and from Rainmeter settings file to be sure you removed any settings that may be wrong, and then reinstall skin with default settings. Hope this helps.

Thanks!
I figured that some of my glitches were due to me fiddling with settings.

Via the system tray, a shortcut is what I meant but since you don't know, that's fine. Im actually currently using nexus ultimate, but Im dissatisfied with the visuals of the system tray. What I do now is to hide everything and use Win+ B then Spacebar/Enter to show hidden icons.
I'm aware of the restrictions of rainmeter, and I've seen that thread. I know you 'cant' replace the system tray and taskbar with rainmeter alone. But it isnt impossible. What I mean is, Nexus + Rainmeter provides a functional means of replicating it...for me at least. I haven't missed the taskbar one bit

I meant volume options though, like the volume mixer, playback/recording devices, etc. But I guess that's not possible.

Ill be satisfied with the lockscreen.
Thanks for recommending Launchy. I'm going to try that out.

Still, will there be any future updates?

Hi.
There are some ideas I have for future update, a bit more testing for Win8, but I'm currently on some other projects. It seems to be working ok so I'll leave it at that for now. If I find some time, or any major idea, sure.
